After an exciting trip to the White House to meet President Barack Obama on Monday for their congratulatory visit, Sasha Vujacic and the Lakers headed over to the Verizon Center on Tuesday in an attempt to steal home-court advantage from the Washington Wizards.
The first quarter was a decent performance by the Lakers, however, they were caught in a bout of lead changes in the early minutes. Fortunately, they ended the quarter with a 30-29 lead off a jump shot from Kobe Bryant.
Sasha entered the game on the 9:29 mark, replacing Jordan Farmar. While in the game, he helped create an opportunity for Lamar Odom by tapping the ball to him, which resulted in him making a basket. At the 7:00 mark, Sasha made a mid-range shot, while the Lakers were shooting at 68%. Sasha was then removed with 5:48 left in the game.
The second quarter saw the Lakers intensifying their defense and forced five turnovers on the Wizards by the 3:15 mark. Sasha returned to the court in the last 2.5 seconds of the half, and the Lakers led 60-44.
In the third quarter, the Lakers’ main goal was maintain the lead. As Bryant passed the ball to Pau Gasol for an alley-oop dunk, the Lakers were up 15 points, 79-64, at the 3:59 mark. The quarter ended with a lead of 87-72.
By the 7:36 mark in the fourth quarter, the Lakers led the ball game by 16 points, 98-72. The Lakers had also turned up the volume in their execution and expanded their lead to as much as 19 points.
Sasha entered the game, replacing Bryant at the 1:22 mark. He made a three-pointer with 37.9 seconds left in the game off an assist from Farmar.
The game ended with a victory for the Lakers, winning 115-103. The Lakers’ record on this eight-game road trip now stands at 2-2.
With 5:14 of playing time, Sasha completed the game with five points and one rebound. To start off the second half of the road trip, Sasha and the Lakers will battle the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
